Meryl Streep has received her 18th Oscar nomination, a new Academy record.

The 64-year-old actress was recognised in the best actress category at the 2014 Academy Awards overnight for her role in August: Osage County.

While she is not the favourite to win the coveted prize – our own Cate Blanchett is – the nod puts Meryl even further ahead of her closest rivals, Katharine Hepburn and Jack Nicholas who have 12 nominations each.

The nomination is Meryl’s 15th in the best actress category. She has also been recognised three times in the best supporting actress category.

Despite her numerous nominations, Meryl has won just three Oscars, for best supporting actress for her role in Kramer vs. Kramer in 1979 and for best actress in 1982 film Sophie’s Choice and 2011 flick The Iron Lady.
