Malala’s campaigns for education rights became globally known after the Taliban shot her in the head when she was 14. She is the youngest person to become a Nobel laureate and hopes to pursue a career in politics so that she can continue her quest for peace, justice and the right to education for all.

The poll, conducted by online market research YouGov, asked 25, 000 people from 34 countries around the world this question: “Thinking about people alive in the world today, which [man or woman] do you most admire?”

A list of 25 men and 25 women was compiled from the nominations, and the ones that were nominated in at least two countries. An additional 5 popular local identities were added to each individual country’s list.

Interestingly, Malala made most country’s list, usually quite high up in the list, and she also topped the list for Norway and Sweden.

So who is the straight-up most admired woman in the world, you ask? That would be movie star, activist and humanitarian, Angelina Jolie. For the men, Microsoft boss and philanthropist Bill Gates took honours.
