Kylie Minogue’s heartbreak over being childless at 48

Singer, dancer, actor – Kylie Minogue can credit herself with many things but the one title she wants most is the one she feels she may never have: “mum”.

In a new interview Dannii Minogue, 45, revealed her sister has always dreamt of being a mother but now, at the age of 48, it’s a dream which has caused her infinite pain.

“Growing up it was Kylie who always wanted kids and I never did,” the former X Factor judge told Sunday Telegraph magazine Stella, adding Kylie was born for the role.

Dannii says Kylie would make a fantastic mother.

“When my brother Brendan had his little boy [Charles, now 10] I hadn’t a clue how to hold him. I remember being really impressed by Kylie because she just instinctively knew what to do.”

However after a string of failed romances balanced with a successful international career, it’s never been the right time for the pop princess to fulfil her dream.

Kylie is now engaged to Joshua Sasse.

“It’s a great sadness for her, it’s a great sadness for me and it’s also made me really understand how blessed I was to be a mother,” Dannii said, adding Kylie is a fantastic aunt to her six-year-old son, Ethan, who she had with former partner Kris Smith.

“Kylie has been incredible with Ethan. She just loves him – I love to see them together.”

Naturally, Kylie expressed her feelings the best way she knows how – through music.

“Kylie wrote a song called Flower about how she feels about motherhood. It’s so beautiful it makes me cry. But you just don’t know what is going to happen in life.”

“Distant child, My Flower. Are you blowing in the breeze?” are just some of the heartbreaking lyrics from the 2012 song.

The subject of children has always been a touchy subject for Kylie; in the past admitting to Daily Mail she’d accepted she would probably never be a mum.

“I don’t know how many more times I can say, if it happens, it happens. But I think maybe part of this frame of mind I’m in, trying to be calm and accepting and at peace with where I am, is really acknowledging that it just might not be written on the pages for me. You can’t have everything, so I’d rather just focus on what I have instead of what I don’t have.”
