It’s official, Kate Winslet keeps her Oscar in the weirdest place ever

If there was an Oscar for keeping your Oscar in the most peculiar place, then Kate Winslet would win that too.
Kate Winslet's Oscar

We suppose when you’re Kate Winslet you can afford to be a bit irreverent with your trophies and accolades – after all, you have so many.

In an interview with WSJ. Magazine, the actress revealed that she keeps her Academy Award for best actress, which she won in 2009 for The Reader, in the bathroom – yep, you read that right.

You’re probably wondering why she leaves her 24-karat gold-plated statue in the loo and it’s honestly for the best reason ever – so guests can practice their would-be Oscar speeches in the mirror.

“The whole point is for everybody to pick it up and go, ‘I’d like to thank my son and my dad,’” she told the magazine.

“And you can always tell when someone has, because they’re in there a little bit longer after they flushed, they’ll come out looking slightly pink-cheeked. It’s hysterical,” she added.

And it seems the placement of her Oscar is actually a full circle moment, as Kate quipped during her speech back in 2009, “I’d be lying if I haven’t made a version of this speech before, I think I was probably eight years old staring into the bathroom mirror.”

In what turned out to be quite the revealing interview, the Titanic starlet also explained how she has never considered herself a movie star, despite being one of the world’s most adored actresses.

“I’ve always been so uncomfortable with that. I just don’t feel like one, and I don’t live like one either – not the way I imagine a proper movie star living,” the mum-of-three explained.

Although the bathroom might not be the most appropriate place for your Oscar to live, at least Kate knows where it is at all times.

In May, Natalie Portman told The Hollywood Reported she’s not a hundred per cent sure where her Gold Statue that she scored for her performance in the 2010 flick Black Swan is located.

“I think it’s in the safe or something. I don’t know. I haven’t seen it in a while,” she said, before adding, “It’s not displayed on the wall. It’s a false idol.”

We’ll take it off your hands if you’re not keen on it Nat – the staff bathroom here at Woman’s Day HQ could do with a touch of gold.
