Kate Ritchie has proven once again that she’s just like other Aussie mums when it comes to her daughter Mae.

Taking to Instagram with a sweet post on Tuesday night, the Home And Away alum showed off her braiding skills on Mae’s hair.

“Her reading, my braiding,” Kate captioned the snap of Mae’s braided hair, along with a series of star emojis.

She ranked her daughter’s reading ability at five stars, but gave herself only three stars for her braiding efforts – but it looked pretty good to us!

Kate added hashtags like “#needswork” and “#goodeffortaftertwentyfiveyears”, suggesting that she wasn’t too impressed with her rusty braids.

Fans took to the comments section to assure the Aussie actress and mum-of-one that she’d done a brilliant job.

“I am a hairdresser and that is some pretty good braiding if you ask me. Looks gorgeous,” one wrote.

Another chimed in: “I only just learned to braid after 12 years of parenting. With four daughters I thought it was about time to learn in lockdown.”

But some mums had very different experiences – and got very different reactions – when it came to braiding their daughters’ hair.

“I waited my whole life to have a daughter so I could do her hair and she hated me braiding it,” one mum confessed.

Thankfully Mae, six, seemed more than happy with her mum’s hair styling abilities.

Ever since Mae’s birth in 2014, Kate has happily embraced the title of ‘mum’, even after so many years as a TV icon playing Sally on Home and Away.

“Her little friends would yell through the fence, ‘That’s Mae’s Mummy!’, but I’ve been used to being the girl from the television,” she told Anh Do on his ABC show, Anh’s Brush With Fame in April.

Kate has been spending plenty of quality time with Mae, whom she shares with ex Stuart Webb, during the recent Sydney lockdown.

Though the most recent COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney shut down production of Australia’s Got Talent, which Kate was set to judge on, she’s been making the most of time with her daughter.

Taking to social media with regular updates on life with her little girl, Kate has shared snaps of Mae helping her out in the kitchen and out and about with her.
