Johnny Depp and Amber Heard reach divorce settlement

The pair released a joint statement describing their marriage as "passionate" and "volatile".

After several months of intense media attention Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have settled their divorce, with both parties releasing a joint statement describing their marriage as “passionate” and “volatile”.

Amber, 30, had previously accused 53-year-old Depp of domestic violence and was granted a temporary restraining order in May after she alleged he threw a phone at her face and physically attacked her.

The news of the settlement comes just days before a hearing regarding a restraining order was due to begin.

The couple, who were married for just under 18 months, also came to a financial agreement as part of their official split – Amber will reportedly receive $7 million, which she will donate to charity.

Here is the whole statement, as obtained by BuzzFeed News:

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have agreed to resolve their divorce proceeding privately. They are issuing this joint statement:

“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm.

Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity. There will be no further public statements about this matter.”
