Yesterday afternoon, thousands of fans, along with friends, family members and famous faces, convened at the Hamer Hall in Melbourne, for a 90 minute long celebration of Olivia Newton-John’s life.
The official state memorial was hosted over seven months after the 73-year-old passed following a long fight with cancer, but time had not healed most wounds as the grief at the ceremony was palpable, with many speakers struggling to contain their composure.
The expected guests were in attendance to pay their respects to ONJ’s life, with her daughter Chloe Lattanzi and husband John Easterling both delivering touching tributes.
But one person that had been in Olivia’s life for over 40 years was not to be seen; her Grease co-star John Travolta.
Olivia and John have remained good friends since starring in Grease together in 1978.
(Image: Getty)John and Olivia have often spoke about the continued close friendship the two have had over the years, and at the time of her death John took to social media with touching words about ‘his Sandy’.
“My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better,” Travolta wrote at the time.
“Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”
Whilst you could understand John not attending due to the memorial being hosted in Australia, whilst he is based in the U.S, the 69-year-old also wasn’t apart of the long list of A-list stars who sent in video messages to pay tribute to ONJ.
Messages from Elton John, Dolly Parton, Nicole Kidman, Sir Cliff Richard, Mariah Carey, and more were played out during the service.
Dolly Parton and Hugh Jackman were amongst the many famous names that gave emotional messages via video.
(Image: Nine)Viewers of the memorial took to social media to ponder why he wasn’t in attendance, with some worrying about his health and wellbeing.
“Did I miss something from John Travolta… I thought he was supposed to say something… ?”, wrote one confused watcher.
“I need some explanation as to why John Travolta wasn’t involved, yet he was mentioned to be doing something. I knew Delta was the last of the memorial but nothing from John Travolta not even a video message. I hope he is okay,” a concerned fan posted online.
