Barbara Sinatra passed away of natural causes, at her home in California, on Tuesday, July 25.
The former Las Vegas showgirl, famed philanthropist and widow of singer Frank Sinatra was 90-years-old.
“She died comfortably surrounded by family and friends at her home,” Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center director John Thoresen told The Desert Sun.
Their marriage lasted 22 years.
Barbara and Frank tied the knot in 1976.
The former was the last of his four wives, following Nancy Barbato, Ava Gardner and Mia Farrow.
This was Frank’s longest marriage, the couple were married for nearly 22 years, up until his passing in 1998.
The iconic singer died at the age of 82, from a heart attack.
Speaking of their commitment to one another, she once mused, “I think it’s because we were friends before anything romantic happened. He would call and chat, but it wasn’t romantic until later. It’s something you can’t explain why or how it happened.”
Barbara is survived by her only child, Robert, whom she shared with her first husband, Robert Oliver.
Before Frank, she was married to Zeppo Marx of the famous Marx Brothers.
Speaking of their commitment to one another, she mused, “I think it’s because we were friends before anything romantic happened. He would call and chat, but it wasn’t romantic until later. It’s something you can’t explain why or how it happened.”
Barbara was celebrated for her philanthropic work.
“Barbara started raising funds for [the center] in 1985 with Frank’s support,” John said.
“It opened in 1986 and since that time, over 20,000 children have received beneficial therapy here. There are several child advocacy centers like it around the country, [but] this one is probably most recognized.”
