During her acceptance speech for Choice Comedian at the Teen Choice Awards in LA, Ellen DeGeneres dropped some empowering pearls of wisdom, which had the entire audience captivated!

“I want to say also it feels good to be chosen but there was a time in my life that I was not chosen,” the 57-year-old said.

She then revealed: “I was the opposite of chosen because I was different, and I think I wanna make sure that everyone knows that what makes you different right now, makes you stand out later in life.”

The talk show host was once out of work thanks to her controversial decision to come-out during the 1990’s, but managed to re-build herself a career that is now the envy of Hollywood.

“So you should be proud of being different, proud of who you are,” the funny-lady explained to the crowd.

Ellen is known for using her public profile to empower young people, especially those who identify as LGBT+ and she used her acceptance speech for exactly that.
