The former X Factor winner was announced by 2014’s Eurovision winner, Conchita Wurst, during her concert at the Opera House on Thursday night.
Dami, 27, will represent the nation in the Swedish capital Stockholm in May and is expected to release her competition song next Friday.
2014 Eurovision winner Conchita and Guy Sebastian announced that Dami Im will represent Australia at this year’s competition.
“I am so thrilled and honoured to be representing Australia at Eurovision this year in Stockholm,” she gushed following the announcement.
“I am really excited to be following in the footsteps of Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy who have both graced the Eurovision stage before me. I truly believe that the Australian public and Eurovision fans around the world are going to love the song I will be performing in Sweden.”
Concluding, “I cannot wait to showcase it to the world and represent Australia to the best of my ability!”
Dami is delighted to be heading to Sweden.
TV personality and Eurovision aficionado Julia Zemiro tweeted, “This is such excellent news. Congratulations Dami! A wonderful representative for Australia. Magnifique X”
The Korean-born singer, who was raised in Brisbane, beat fellow singers Delta Goodrem, Tina Arena and Sia, who were all rumoured to be in the mix.
Dami with her mentor, Dannii Minogue, won X Factor in 2013.
“We have selected Dami as the perfect artist to capture Europe’s attention with her unique personal style and show-stopping voice; an artist who is ready to showcase our musical talent to the world,” SBS explained about their decision for choosing the reality star.
Following Conchita’s announcing the exciting news, Dami had some parting words for her competitors.
“Watch out Sweden, the Aussies are coming!”
