Hugh Jackman to play Steve Irwin

The rumour mill is churning with whispers Bindi Irwin "really wants Hugh Jackman to play Steve".

According to New Idea an “insider source” says that Steve Irwin’s’ 17-year-old daughter Bindi Irwin has indicated she would like to have the Wolverine star play her late wildlife warrior father.
The glossy mag source reports Bindi "really wants Hugh Jackman to play Steve" because "she thinks Hugh is just like her dad in many ways – loved, dependable and internationally renowned".
September 4 marked the 9th anniversary of the ‘Crocodile Hunter's’ shock death – he was killed by a stingray while diving off the coast of the Great Barrier Reef.
Whispers of a movie based on Steve’s life have been rampant since his death and according to John Stainton, who directed Steve in his 2002 feature The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course, even Steve himself had approached Eric Bana before his death to play him in a film.
"Steve said to him to promise one thing if he died anytime soon ... play him if there was ever a movie about his life," Stainton said in 2006.
"Eric shook his hand and said 'you've got yourself a deal'."
While the New Idea reports might just be rumours we think it would only be fitting that an Aussie actor would play one of our most beloved personalities.
And while the Hugh Jackman/Steve Irwin resemblance might be tough to spot but we’ve seen further stretches to the imagination when it comes to Hollywood biopics.
