The 2020 Olympic Games are well underway in Tokyo, though the games are technically the 2021 Olympics after being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
With athletes following strict coronavirus rules on and off the sporting stage and arenas empty of spectators, the Games look very different this year.
But that hasn’t stopped Aussies from cheering on our Olympic athletes from afar!
Celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and Lisa Curry have shown their support for the team in green and gold even though they can’t be at the games.
Stars have taken to social media instead, posting tributes to some of our greatest Olympic athletes and celebrating every medal won.

Nicole Kidman
Nicole showed her Aussie pride in a BMX Bandits shirt as she congratulated BMX rider Logan Martin for his gold medal. She wrote on Instagram: “Congratulations from this BMX Bandit to @LoganMartinBMX for winning the first ever Olympic Gold Medal for #FreestyleBMX! 🏅🚴 #Tokyo2020 #Olympics”
Delta Goodrem
The Aussie songstress shared this sweet throwback from the 2000 Sydney Olympics before celebrating the Tokyo games with a special themed Olympic Bunkerdown. Sharing a clip to Instagram, Delta spoke of “our amazing incredible athletes who we have been cheering on all week proudly ♥️ may they continue to shine at the Games.”
Hugh Jackman
The actor shared his support for Australia’s Olympic team on social media, where he celebrated the green and gold. “To all the Aussies going to the Olympics in Tokyo, I know it’s been a long wait […] you guys are just incredible,” he said in a video shared to Instagram. “Enjoy every single moment and go crush it. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie – oi, oi, oi!”

Can you tell Andy is enjoying the Olympics? Posting this snap during the women’s swimming finals, the presenter wrote: “10m to go! They’ve done it! The Olympian shared a number of throwbacks to her own swimming career while the games were underway in Tokyo, posting this cute collage on social media. She captioned it: “Started swimming at 10. First Olympics : Moscow, age 18. Second Olympics : LA, age 22. Third Olympics : Barcelona, as a mum of 2, age 30. Carrying the Australian flag at the Brisbane Commonwealth Games, age 20. The Home And Away star was cheering along with the rest of the country when our Olympic swimmers brought home a bunch of gold medals. “GOLD and a WR!!! 🏅🏅🏅🏅 Congratulations to these Aussie legends!” she captioned a snap of her TV as the likes of Cate Campbell and Emma McKeon held up their medals.
