Oscar-winner costume and production designer Catherine Martin, famous for her elaborate work on husband Baz Luhrmann’s films and stage productions such as Moulin Rouge and La Boheme, has become the first Australian to be inducted into the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style in Beverly Hills.

Joining luminaries such as Giorgio Armani, Manolo Blahnik and Gianni and Donatella Versace, Martin has been recognised as a style legend for her contribution to the worlds of fashion and entertainment.

Martin and Luhrmann’s most recent film The Great Gatsby, which was widely-acclaimed by press and critics alike and has earned two Academy Award nominations for Best Costume Design and Production Design, was clearly persuasive for the committee.

“It is impossible to think of anyone in 2013 who brought together the worlds of luxury fashion and film in the way Catherine Martin did with her costume and production designs for The Great Gatsby,” said Peri Elle Berne, Chairman of the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style.

“She created something totally new and refreshing working so closely with such amazing ultra-luxe brands yet being true to the period.”
