Cate Blanchett has joined the long line of celebrities to lend her acting talents to animated film.

While in Cannes this week Cate has been promoting her new film, How to Train Your Dragon 2, where she portrays the voice of Valka, the long lost mother of the animated features hero, Hiccup.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter the two-time Oscar winner said she was excited about the project from the start.

“I saw the first How to Train Your Dragon film with my children, and I found it utterly exhilarating,” she told THR.

The mother-of-two boys said when director, Dean DeBlois asked her to come on board she jumped at the chance.

“I said, absolutely, because the whole process of trying to bring something to life in advance of the animation – purely with your voice – I found it a really interesting challenge.”
