The countdown to the 68th Cannes Film Festival is on

Before the 2015 Cannes Film Festival kicks off what better time to look back at some of the most memorable moments and movie stars from the past 68 years.

The 68th Cannes Film Festival, the crowning glory of the international film festival circuit, gets underway on May 13.

That means over the next 10 days cinemaphiles will be privy to an array of films, from big budget blockbusters to arthouse underdogs, all premiering in the south of France.

But what intrigues most about the Cannes Festival are the movie stars that travel to the Mediterranean to walk the red carpet – from Elizabeth Taylor to Cate Blanchette, the Cannes alumni is impressive.

This year Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomi Watts, Matthew McConaughey, Natalie Portman, Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, and Sienna Miller will be among the famous faces to attend the annual bash.

The 2015 event will also see the debut of the highly-anticipated ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’, with a star-studded premiere including Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.

Oscar-winning Australian actress Cate Blanchett will also be about for her film Carol, a 1950s-set lesbian romance which was directed by Todd Haynes and also stars Rooney Mara.

Sicario, a drug-cartel drama featuring Emily Blunt and Benicio del Toro, directed by Cannes favorite Denis Villeneuve will also premiere as will director Paolo Sorrentino’s new film Youth starring Harvey Keitel, Michael Caine, Rachel Weisz, and Jane Fonda.

Joel and Ethan Coen, of Fargo and No Country for Old Men fame, have been announced as the Presidents of the Jury for the main competition. It is the first time that two people will chair the jury.

So just before this year kicks off what better time to look back at some of the most memorable moments from the past 68 years of the Cannes Film Festival.
