Calvin Harris regrets his very public break-up with Taylor Swift

Nothing was off limits when the Scottish DJ sat down to chat about his dramatic split with popstar Taylor Swift…

Just one day after Taylor Swift’s relationship with Tom Hiddleston was confirmed to be over, the blonde beauty’s former flame is speaking out in a tell-all interview with British GQ.

Calvin Harris and the Blank Space hitmaker began dating in February 2015 after being introduced by mutual friend, Ellie Goulding.

Their whirlwind romance was similar to that of a fairytale, which is why it came as such as a surprise when the pair announced their split just over a year later, and even more of a shock when Taylor moved on with a new man in the same month.

Now, looking back on their dramatic split with the benefit of hindsight, Calvin has expressed his regret with the way it all played out so publicly.

The couple seemed happier than ever in the months before their split, so what went wrong?

“It’s very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly. The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publiciced than the relationship itself,” the 32-year-old explained.

“When we were together, we were very careful for it not to be a media circus. She respected my feelings in that sense.”

Many thought the couple would tie the knot before breaking up!

In June, the pair ended their year-long romance, but Calvin was shocked to say the least upon finding out about his ex’s new flame just two weeks later.

“For both of us, it was the wrong situation,” he said of their decision to call it quits. “It clearly wasn’t right, so it ended…”

At first, the break-up was amicable with Calvin tweeting out that the pair still has a “huge amount of love and respect” for each other, but it wasn’t long before things took a turn for the bitter.

The drama that followed their split came thick and fast…

Back in July, when it was revealed that Taylor had a rather large creative input in her former boyfriend’s hit track This is What You Came For, Calvin took to Twitter to let his frustrations loose in a series of now-deleted tweets.

“I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though. And initially she wanted it kept secret, hence the pseudonym.”

“Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though,” he ranted.

Taking aim directly at his ex, he went on: “I figure if you’re happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do.

“I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy [Perry] ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it,” he finished with a bang.

Now, looking back on this moment of anger, Calvin reveals his regret.

“It was completely the wrong instinct. I was protecting what I see as my one talent in the world being belittled,” he told GQ. “It felt like things were piling on top of me, and that was when I snapped.

“I’m not good at being a celebrity, but when it ended, all hell broke loose. Now I see that Twitter thing as a result of me succumbing to pressure.”

“It took me a minute to realise that none of that matters. I’m a positive guy.”
