Almost a month since the news of his affair broke, former NRL player Beau Ryan has spoken out for the first time about the cheating scandal that has rocked his wife of three years, Kara Orrell.
Appearing on last night’s The Footy Show to discuss the upcoming grand final, the fallen star took a moment to address the crowd and make a statement about his affair with Hi-5 performer, Lauren Brant, whose fiancé exposed the couple in an exclusive interview to Woman’s Day.
Dressed in a sharp blue suit, the former Cronulla Sharks and West Tigers player spoke candidly.
“Firstly, I just want to apologise to all the people that have been hurt recently,” he said.
“It’s been really, really hard for myself and my family, and everyone involved. But, I’m not here to talk about my private life,” the father-of-one revealed, “
“I want to thank everyone for their support, and thank everyone who has been very respectful of our privacy – I’d love for people to continue to do that,” Beau added.
“But, I’m not here to talk about my private life, I’m here to talk about a grand final,” insisted the 30-year-old, “I’m just happy to be back.”
He didn’t speak further, instead choosing to deflect to the upcoming grand final.
Beau Ryan is married to his high school sweetheart, Kara. They have one daughter together, Remi, two.
Lauren and Beau met on the set of Sydney theatre production Aladdin and his Wondrous Lamp.
The news of Beau Ryan and Lauren Brant’s affair was revealed by her heartbroken fiancé, Warren Riley, who spoke to Woman’s Day about unearthing text messages from Beau on Lauren’s phone. After Warren confronted her, she confessed the pair had slept together on more than one occasion.
“It’s kind of a punch in the stomach. I felt completely sick,” Warren explained.
“Everything you plan for life…” Warren said, “It’s just shattering. It’s so out of character for her.”
“We were supposed to be together forever,” the shattered personal trainer said, “She was just about to become my wife.”
Warren and Lauren have since ended their engagement, with Warren revealing it’s what “I know I had to do”.
