Aussie stars shine at the AACTAs

Australia's best dazzled on the red carpet last night at the AACTA Awards.

Australia’s best and brightest were out in force last night to celebrate the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards in a sticky, muggy Sydney.

Actors, models, musicians and moguls were in attendance, in their finery of course, to see the industry’s best take out the awards.

Cate Blanchett won big after she was honoured with the Longford Lyell Award, a lifetime achievement award. The actress used her moment to thank the AACTAs for acknowledging women’s achievements and not ‘sweeping them under the rug’.

“So often in any industry, the film industry is no exception, female achievement, because we just get on and do stuff, we get swept under the carpet,” Cate said.

“I think it’s fantastic that AACTA are coming into the 21st century and so it’s a particular pleasure for me to receive this.”
