Angus’s brother Phillip released a statement on behalf of the family that read, “We confirm that Angus Hawley has suddenly and very unexpectedly died of a suspected heart attack whilst in New York attending a conference.”

“There are no further details at this time as it only occurred last night, our time. The family request the media please respect their privacy at this very sad time.”

The Courier Mail reports that Angus was out to dinner with a friend when he suffered a cardiac arrest and then died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

The news has come as a huge shock for Angus’ wife Prue, who tied the knot with him in 2011 and was reportedly planning on joining him in New York in a couple of days time.

Angus was widely reported to be a fit and healthy exercise lover, so the news will no doubt come as a huge blow to the whole family – including his sister-in-law Nicole Kidman, who Woman’s Day has learned was in the midst of making plans with husband Keith Urban to extend their family via adoption.

The family had only just recently endured the tragic shock death of Antonia and Nicole’s father Dr Antony Kidman, in September last year.

Angus fathered four children with Antonia, Lucia, Hamish, James and Sybell, before their split in 2007. Since the split, the businessman, who worked for Valor Private Wealth, kept a low profile .

After his highly publicised 2007 split with Antonia, it was revealed that Angus checked into a Sydney clinic, to defeat a drug addiction he had battled following a long struggle with depression.

“I was depressed, out of control and full of self-loathing, and I resorted to drugs to get through it,” he told Woman’s Day of this period in an interview in 2009.

“I wasn’t in a happy place and it was an appalling thing, but I was sick, and at least I was big enough to do something about it,” he added.

Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
