After the disaster that was 2020, everyone around the world, celebrities included, was looking forward to the excitement of 2021.
But with COVID lockdowns, bizarre weather events and political unrest across much of the world, this year hasn’t been the redemption story many of us were so desperate for.
At Wednesday night’s AACTA Awards in Sydney, some of our favourite Aussie celebs shared their unfiltered thoughts on the year that was including The Living Room‘s Amanda Keller and Dr Chris Brown.
The Living Room team were all glammed up for the 2021 AACTA Awards.
(Getty)When asked “If 2021 was a person, what would you say to them?” Amanda didn’t hold back.
“I’ve got a son in year 12 and I really feel for him, so I’d like to kick 2021 in the d–k!” she told Yahoo.
Amanda’s TLR co-host Chris Brown shared a similar sentiment, saying :”And if she’s doing that, I’m just gonna back her up!”
“Scrag fight, 2021, I’m gonna see her behind the toilets and I’m gonna pull her hair!” Amanda laughed.
The Living Room host Amanda Keller said she wants to “kick 2021 in the d–k.”
(Ten)Legendary Kiwi actor Sam Neill shared a message of encouragement to people struggling amid the uncertainty of the pandemic.
“I think it’s been a tough 2021 for so many people, my heart goes out to them, and I’m looking forward to a much better 2022. And the message is: get vaxxed!” he said.
Drag queen royalty Courtney Act offered her response in typical hilarious fashion: “Wait, what year are we in now? 2021. 2020, was the really s—ty bit, 2021 wasn’t too bad!”
Real estate agent Gavin Rubinstein, from Luxe Listing Sydney was among the very few celebs who had some positive words for 2021, saying: “Thanks for the blessings, I love you.”
But his co-star D’Leanne Lewis wasn’t as thrilled with the past year, admitting: “I would say, ‘2021, you need to work on yourself.'”
Big names like Danielle Cormack, Rachel Griffiths, Joel Edgerton, Lisa Wilkinson, Rebel Wilson, Hamish Blake and Zoe Foster Blake led the bevy of A-list stars on the red carpet at the Aussie film and television industry’s night of nights.
Legendary Kiwi actor Sam Neill shared a message of encouragement to people struggling amid the uncertainty of the pandemic.
(Getty)Nitram, a film based on the 1996 Port Arthur Massacre and mass murderer Martin Bryant, cleaned up at the awards ceremony, taking home eight wins, including Best Film and Best Direction.
The Newsreader, a drama series set in the cutthroat world of commercial television news in the 1980s, dominated the awards, winning five AACTAs, including Best Drama Series and actor awards for Anna Torv and William McInnes.
The late TV icon Bert Legend was also paid tribute to by the academy, with close friend and comedian Rove McManus describing him as “the last of the true old school all-rounders”.
