He was due to marry his fiancée Alizee Thevenet this month, but the couple were sadly forced to postpone their wedding due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

So now, James Middleton has decided to use his time in lockdown to surprise his fiancée with a bold new look.

Taking to Instagram, the 33-year-old charity campaigner shared a candid video of himself shaving his rugged beard for the first time in seven years, before surprising Alizee with his bare face.

“As Alizee and myself were due to get married… well actually, this month. She’s never seen me without a beard, so I thought it was about time I showed her what was behind here,” James explained, before confessing he was worried his dogs wouldn’t know who he was!

“In fact, what I am most worried about is these guys might not recognise me afterwards. Say goodbye,” the entrepreneur said, before pulling out an electric razor and shaving off his facial hair.

Once James finishes the big shave, he creeps up on his wife to-be, who is sitting with his parents Carole and Michael Middleton in a sun-drenched courtyard at their Bucklebury mansion, enjoying a spread of nibbles and wine.

When the French beauty spots James, she can be seen leaping up and screaming in shock.

“Oh my god! So weird. Even when I kiss you it’s different,” Alice remarked as James’ parents Carole and Michael share a giggle.

James and his French partner met in 2018 after a chance encounter with the Middleton family’s pet dogs.

After: James hasn’t been without his trademark beard for 7 years.

Sitting in a South Kensington venue, Alizee reportedly approached one of James’ furry friends, Ella, and the rest, as they say, was history.

News of the pair postponing their wedding was first reported at the end of March, with the pair deciding it was just “not practical” to host a wedding in the current climate.

Daily Mail columnist Eden Confidential said the pair would “revisit their wedding date” once things had settled down again and “all their guests are able and happy to attend.”

Tick of approval! Despite the initial shock, Alizee loved it.
