On Wednesday morning the couple stood proudly before more than 3,000 residents, son Jacques in the prince’s arms, and daughter Gabriella in Charlene’s, as they officially introduced to the public the first royal heirs born in Monaco since the birth of their father 56 years ago.

The parents interchanged the babies part-way through the presentation.

Gabriella was the first to arrive on 10 December, at 5:04pm, with her brother following two minutes later at 5:06pm who were born at the Princess Grace Hospital – the hospital named after their grandmother.

Two weeks after their birth, the world was given its very first glimpse of the newborns through a series of images released on the official palace Facebook page.

The morning was one filled with joy and excitement, smiles and waves and an endless sea of red and white flags, banners and balloons. Church bells rang out for fifteen minutes, and there were twenty-one cannon shots fired for each twin as news of their arrival was announced.

Amidst the celebrations, the babies appeared to sleep throughout the event.

According to Monaco’s inheritance law, Jacques will one day become the ruler of Monaco, and will be known as His Serene Highness The Hereditary Prince of Monaco, Marquis of Baux.

Gabriella will have the title of Her Serene Highness The Countess of Carladès.
