5 surprising things we learned from Meghan Markle’s tell-all interview

Note to all aspiring Princesses... Buy a pair of vegan leather trousers.
Meghan Markle

12 months ago Meghan Markle was the stunning actress on the legal drama Suits.

Today, she’s the LA-born star who’s captured the heart of Prince Harry.

The 32-year-old has had his fair share of romances, but this seems to be for keeps with his lady love stepping away from the limelight, shutting down her lifestyle blog and sharing less of herself to her fans.

All signs point to a royal in waiting but Meghan Markle is still her own woman, which is why she did a tell-all interview with British publication Good Housekeeping.

It turns out the shoot was done for the magazine’s sister publication in America just weeks before she started dating the ginger Prince.

Still, the 35-year-old is an actual delight… Without further adieu, here are the most relatable things we discovered about Britannia’s future Princess.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

It’s so rare for a (albeit future) royal to share such an intimate look into their life!

Meghan Markle loves to cook

She may have grown up in sunny LA but Miss Markle’s heart (and apparently her tastebuds) are quintessentially British.

Her on-screen talents jump into the real world and right into the kitchen.

Megs admitted her go to crowd pleaser is a roast chook.

“There is nothing as delicious (or as impressive) as a perfectly roasted chicken” she explained to the mag.

“It’s a game changer. I bring that to dinner parties and make a lot of friends.”

She’s a foodie that won’t scare you off with activated almonds

You’d be forgiven if you imagined Meghan’s Hollywood-meets-royal taste would be hard to understand.

Chuck out the truffle oil and caviar (or just send it our way) and the actress actually chows down on things you’d pop in your kids’ lunchbox.

When asked about five items she always has in her refrigerator, she answered, “Hummus, carrots – because I love them and so does my dog, Bogart, strangel a green juice, almond milk, for sure, and a chia seed pudding I make every single week.”

“So easy, so good. I really love to cook.”

This Princess likes leather (in an ethical way of course)

We’re not going to lie… We can’t even envision a world where Her Majesty would wear leather pants.

But times are changing and Miss Markle will be bringing her own flair to the world of royal dressing.

Chatting about her own style, she mused, “My wardrobe for my part in Suits isn’t like Working Girl – dressing for work doesn’t have to be so on-the-nose these days.”

“The key is to have your own point of view attached to it. Personally, I love cropped pants in vegan leather, a great fitted blazer and a button-down [shirt].”

Her guide to travel will have you flying high

As a LA girl whose hit drama is filmed in Toronto, Meghan is constantly flying.

And the 35-year-old has mastered the art of being relaxed without leaving home in pyjamas.

Leave jammies at home!

“I love to travel, and I travel so often. There are certain things I’ve learned that make you look a bit more polished,” she advises.

“You can still dress really comfortably, I dress monochromatically… some really great comfy trousers, a comfortable top, again the black blazer, something like that. Just so you look refined.”

And since Meghan is super down to earth… She does what we ALL do on planes.

“The best way to kill time on a flight is to drink wine and watch movies. It’s like a vacation in the sky.”

Cheers to that!

Harry take note, she’s got hella good handwriting

Many fans will know Meghan used to be a part-time calligrapher… With such skill it’s no wonder Harry’s beloved sees the magic in a handwritten note.

“I used to be a calligrapher – that was my side job when I was auditioning – I did calligraphy for a lot of weddings and big events. So I love the art of a handwritten note and I think handwritten notes are a lost art form,” she remarked.

Her favourite note is from a very special man in her life… Her dad!

“The best handwritten note I ever received was probably from my Dad when I booked my first [TV] pilot, saying ‘Meg, I knew this day would come. I’m so proud of you.’ I still have it in a little jewellery box by the side of my bed. It doesn’t have to be a big note but it’s the idea of someone taking the time to put pen to paper, I think, is what really matters.”

Excuse us while frantically write handwritten notes, inviting Meghan to join Prince Harry for his June visit to Sydney.

We’re betting Prince Harry will have a few solid notes under his sleeve.
