Buckingham Palace have confirmed Prince Philip will spend a second night at the King Edward VII Hospital in London.
The 96-year-old has developed an infection from a pre-existing condition however no further details on his medical condition have been released.
According to the BBC, The Duke of Edinburgh’s hospital stint is “not cause for serious concern” and the royal isn’t bed-ridden and in good spirits.
During a visit to Finsbury Park after this week’s most recent terror attack, Prince Charles said his father was “getting better.”
Prince Philip was reportedly told to head to hospital as a precautionary measure, and was driven to King Edward VII in central London from Windsor Castle on Tuesday night.
Despite her husband’s poor health, the hard-working Queen has stuck to her busy schedule as she receives updates on Philip’s state.
The Duke is set to spend a second night in hospital.
On Wednesday morning, she was joined by Prince Charles for the State Opening of Parliament. The event, which usually commands a great deal of pomp and finery, operated with reduced ceremonial elements for the first time in over four decades.
Her Majesty, 91, arrived to Parliament by car (rather than riding in the majestic Diamond Jubilee State Coach, as she does most years with husband Prince Philip), and chose to wear a floral day dress, brightly-hued coat and matching hat in place of the traditional Robe of the State and the Imperial State Crown.
The famously-heavy crown, which features a 317-carat diamond, was instead driven to the House of Lords chamber in its own car and carried into the ceremony by an officer of state. The Sword of State and Cap of Maintenance were also carried.
It was business as usual for Queen Elizabeth, as she attened the second day of Royal Ascot following the State Opening of Parliament.
The changes are reportedly due to timing, with the Trooping of the Colour having taken place just two days before the State Opening of Parliament. The proximity of the two major events, it’s claimed, left too little time for adequate rehearsal and preparation.
Following her appearance at Parliament, Queen Elizabeth attended day two of Royal Ascot at the Ascot Racecourse.
The Monarch looked stylish in a bright yellow coat, a matching hat and a a patterned green skirt.
At the event, the Queen, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla lead the royal procession in a horse-drawn carriage.
The 91-year-old, pictured at Royal Ascot on Wednesday, is receiving updates on her husband’s health as she sticks to her busy schedule.
In May, it was confirmed The Queen’s right-hand man was stepping down from his royal duties.
In a statement, the palace said that Philip would not be accepting new invitations for visits and engagements, although “he may still choose to attend certain public events from time to time.”
Since his retirement, Prince Philip has been spotted on several occasions carriage racing.
His last public appearances were at Royal Ascot on Tuesday and Trooping the Colour on Saturday.
