Could one rumoured kiss tear two couples apart? Married At First Sight explodes this week when a story spreads that Michael kissed the wife of another man.
It all went down in Chris and Vanessa’s room, when Michael’s wife Stacey was away in Adelaide, spending time with her children. Michael was drinking with the couple, and so was another woman.
“We were having a few drinks and hanging out,” Michael, 28, tells TV WEEK. “We were all joking and having a laugh. We were mucking around with the phone and were like, ‘Oh, how funny would this be if this got out?’
“We were fully clothed, just being stupid, being loose, having fun, not really understanding the implications of what rumours can do to your life.”
According to Michael, Vanessa then claimed she had a video of him kissing a woman who wasn’t his wife.
“Vanessa said she was going to go sell it to the paparazzi. I’m going, ‘What are you on about?'”
Michael found himself with some explaining to do.

At the time, the Adelaide company director says he didn’t believe the kiss had happened, but he wasn’t quite sure.
“We’d had a few drinks,” he explains. “It got to the point where I was like, ‘Did I kiss her? Didn’t I kiss her?'”
The woman involved started telling people that she and Michael had kissed, and people believed her.
“Michael obviously did it,” Jonethen, 27, tells TV WEEK. “He was just playing the ‘Oh, I was too drunk to remember’ card. That’s a lame excuse.”
Jonethen doesn’t think the woman would have lied about the kiss.
“I don’t believe any girl would go out of her way to make herself look like a cheater,” he says.

(Image: Nine Network)The scandal rocked the whole group. Aleks, 32, had something to say about it.
“When the whole cheating thing came out with her and Michael, I spoke up,” she explains. “It was the whole Girl Code thing – ‘Let’s not be with each other’s husbands’ – and then she goes and does it. Of course I had something to say.”
But Aleks says that when the woman was getting “completely bullied” by the group over it, she had her back.
“She was strong enough to stand up and admit to it,” she says. “I have a lot of respect for people who tell the truth.”

In fact, the scandal made him realise something about Stacey.
“I realised I loved her,” he says. “I went, ‘I’m not ready to let this girl out of my life; I’m not ready to say goodbye.'”
But is what Michael did something Stacey can forgive?

Finally the truth behind the toothbrush
It’s the incident that had everybody talking before the first episode of MAFS even aired. One of the husbands used his wife’s toothbrush to clean the toilet – and filmed it. The whole story unfolds this week.
Jonethen says when he found out about it, he didn’t say anything.
“I think I found out and then the next day it came out. But I felt absolutely disgusted – even saying it now makes me feel sick.
“It was like, ‘Bro, you just stepped over the line. I don’t care if she [your wife] hooked up with your mother, that’s just too far.'”
Jonethen says when he found out about the tootbrush incident, he didn’t say anything.

“It bothered me that someone would do that, be so detrimental to one’s health,” she admits.
However, she’s apparently been able to put the matter behind her and move on.
“I’m far more forgiving than I give myself credit for,” she says.
