After being sentenced to eight-and-a-half years for the “catastrophic injuries” he inflicted upon then-seven-month-old Bobby Weaver, this week, Andrew John Nolan has had his sentence increased by an extra three years.
However, according to the now-brain-damaged and disabled toddler’s father, Barry, this sentence is not enough – and nothing ever will be.
Once Andrew was handed his new sentence – one that will make him eligible for parole in April 2026 – Barry told Nine News nothing will come close to the life sentence Bobby has been dealt.
“It’s never going to be enough, no matter what happened. For me even 25 years wasn’t enough but at least we got some sort of outcome from today,” Mr Webber said.
“Justice for bobby is all we have been after and I suppose in some way, we have some sort of justice.”
“For such a horrendous violent crime against a seven-month-old baby, the system’s disgusting really.”
“They have recognised that the original sentence wasn’t enough, but what do you have to do to get a maximum sentence in our society, you put your faith in a system that is clearly not working.”
In September 2014, Elise and Barry Webber were on their honeymoon on the Gold Coast, having left their three children, 11-year-old Gabrielle, Olivia, six, and baby Bobby with Elise’s mother and her sister, Casey.
As reported by KidSpot, one night, Gabrielle and Olivia’s grandmother and aunty took them to the drive-in movies, leaving Bobby at home with Casey’s partner of 11 years, Andrew.
When they returned home, they discovered Bobby limp and whimpering in his cot. Upon changing his nappy, Casey noticed bruising on his genitals, which was to be only one of the many horrific injuries Bobby had sustained in Andrew’s care.
Casey and Andrew rushed Bobby to a local hospital, where he was put on a breathing tube, and then transferred to Randwick’s Sydney Children’s Hospital.
Following medical assessment, Bobby was suffering from myriad skull fractures from blunt-force trauma, carpet burns on his forehead, fractured vertebrae, burst blood vessels in his eyes and, shockingly, small bite marks on his body.
Since initially denying he had any involvement in Bobby’s injuries, originally claiming that someone must’ve broken into the house while he was relaxing on the couch, one month later, Andrew confessed to attacking the defenseless young boy.
