Young woman indecently assaulted in Sydney taxi: man to face court

It’s alleged the incident occurred in the inner west around 9.30pm.

A male taxi driver will face court later this month after allegedly indecently assaulting a 19-year-old woman in Sydney’s inner west overnight (Wednesday, October 5).

NSW Police report that at about 9.30pm a woman got in a taxi on Burwood Road, Burwood, and asked the driver to take her to Abbotsford.

It will be alleged that during the trip, the driver, a 46-year-old man, began to make advances toward the 19-year-old woman.

The woman then asked the driver to take her to Five Dock, and contacted her boyfriend to inform him of the situation.

Police have been told when the taxi arrived at Henry Street, Five Dock, the driver indecently assaulted the woman before driving away.

Officers attached to Burwood Local Area command attended and commenced a search of the area.

At about 1am this morning (Thursday, October 6), police arrested a man in Bruce Street, Merrylands in Sydney’s west

He was taken to Merrylands Police Station where he was charged with assault with act of indecency.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on October 27.
