The Westfield in Parramatta, Sydney is in lock down after police found a suspicious package in the busy shopping centre.
Entrances to the centre are closed, as well as nearby shops, restaurants and nearby train station after police said a member of the public reported a suspicious suitcase.
Buses have been barred from getting into the Parrramatta Interchange while at least 40 officers reportedly flooded the Westfield and a police helicopter circled overhead.
At least six police cars and rescue vans were parked in the area, while shopkeepers inside the centre said they were told to keep working but to stay away from the train station entrance.
“We’ve been told nothing. We work in the centre and they assured as that we are safe but no one is allowed past that line,” the Argyle Street family Dentist told The Daily Telegraph.
“There was a message over the loudspeaker and they said that there was a police operation going on. They said to just keep going on as usual,” a David Jones worker said.
The whole scenario reportedly took around three hours and police declined to comment on what was in the suitcase nor where exactly it was located.
