Newborn baby tragically dies, man taken into custody in relation to his death

Our thoughts are with the little boy’s loved ones during this difficult time.

A two-month-old baby boy has lost his life, and a crime scene has been established in the street that the newborn was first discovered by police.

Police were called to a home in the Wagga Wagga suburb of Kooringal in New South Wales at 5am this morning after receiving reports of concern for the child.

When police arrived at the residence, they found the infant, injured. Emergency services were called and the boy was then rushed to Wagga Rural Referral Hospital.

Tragically, he died in hospital soon after.

According to the Daily Advertiser, details surrounding the Henwood Avenue incident are still emerging, but it is said that a 32-year-old has been taken into custody. He is believed to be assisting police with their inquiries.

Police have since confirmed that the man has been released from custody “pending further inquiries”, and the baby’s mother is reportedly assisting homicide detectives with their investigation.

One neighbour living in the street where the incident occurred says she heard and saw a man “screaming and sobbing uncontrollably”.

“He didn’t put up any fight – he just sobbed as police loaded him into the wagon,” she says.

We’re sending our condolences to the family of this young baby boy.
