Tony Abbott admits to reading Fifty Shades of Grey and he has some feelings about it

Who says politicians don’t keep abreast with popular culture?

In a surprise admission, former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has admitted to reading E.L James’s cult erotic thriller, Fifty Shades of Grey.

Abbott made the confession during an interview with ABC radio’s ‘Sunday Afternoo’n show, hilariously admitting he stumbled upon the book in an airport. Where are photographers when you need them?

However, Mr Abbott was less than impressed by the S&M novel.

“I didn’t think it was a great book at all.” he said.

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in the film adaptation.

“I think, because it was being much talked about at the time, I might have picked it up at an airport bookshop and thought I should at least become familiar with this talking point but I have to say it was a few hours that could easily have been better spent.”

Each to their own. We’re pretty sure Tony isn’t the only man who wondered what all the fuss was about!

Mr Abbott also revealed he loved Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones in the interview.
