Three generations in tragic fatal car crash in Hunter Valley

A 5-year-old boy was found wandering around near the crash site at which three people were killed.

A little boy is the only survivor of a horrific car crash that killed his father, grandfather and a real estate agent on a remote Hunter Valley property yesterday (Monday).

It is believed that all occupants of the car were thrown from the vehicle when it rolled down a steep embankment in the Gundy area, east of Scone. Reports say the family had been visiting from Sydney and were looking at local properties with the agent.

The boy has survived the accident with minor injuries including a broken arm. The boy was flown to Scone Hospital before he was taken to John Hunter Hospital, in Newcastle, by ambulance.

He is in a stable condition, believed to be with loved ones by his bedside as the family deals with the heartbreaking loss of a father and son witnessed by the boy.

Alerts were raised yesterday afternoon when the group, who had left in the morning, had not returned. The car was located by a neighbouring landowners about 5pm yesterday, when he found the young boy wandering around.

Two Westpac Rescue Helicopters were dispatched from Newcastle and Tamworth with the Tamworth chopper arriving first to find there was nothing they could do for the men. The second helicopter was then called off.

Paramedics could only access the remote a site by quad bikes.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
