Warning: distressing picture ahead

Victorian authorities are investigating after a slain kangaroo was found on a roadside in Melbourne’s outer north-east.

Disturbingly, the animal , which had been shot three times, was propped up on a chair and draped in a shawl.

It was also tied to the chair and made to hold a bottle of ouzo.

It’s being called a “tasteless stunt” by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP). They are now appealing for witnesses for the depraved act.

“This is appalling and immoral behaviour and we are urging anyone with information to come forward,” DELWP senior investigator Mike Sverns said.

“It would have taken some time to stage the kangaroo in that position on the side of the road and we are certain that someone would have seen something, given the public area and traffic flow of this main road,” Sverns continued.

The penalty for unlawfully killing a kangaroo is severe. Killing protected wildlife could mean fines from $7,500 to $36,500, or even jail time from six to 24 months.

Anyone with info about this sick stunt should contact Crime Stoppers.
