A distressed mother has spoken of her horror when her shower screen exploded while her 4-year-old son was inside washing himself.

Megan Tilbury says she stepped away to lay out her son’s pyjamas when she heard an almighty explosion followed by his screams – the glass shower screen had shattered around him.

Little Cruz was rushed to hospital.

The shower screen completely shattered.

Ms Tilbury told Radio 6PR: “He got lacerations to both arms, his head and his chest, muscle damage in his arm… the plastic surgeon said he was so lucky that’s all that happened.”

Thankfully, Cruz wasn’t seriously injured but he’ll need further appointments with the plastic surgeon, according to his mother.

“He didn’t hit [the screen], there was nothing in the shower with him… it just exploded,” Ms Tilbury continued.

Cruz was covered in cuts from the shattered glass.

The shower panels were installed around a year and half ago by the same installer who erected an outdoor glass fence. Ms Tilbury revealed the fence also exploded and they were told it was something to do with the brackets not being installed properly.

The Building Commission is now investigating the incident. It’s unclear whether it was the result of a faulty product or poor workmanship.
