Schoolboys stage mass skirt-wearing protest as school upholds ‘shorts ban’ during heatwave

Angry parents have been campaigning for their sons’ to be allowed to wear shorts in the sweltering heat.

UK residents sure know how to get their knickers in a twist during a heatwave, but we’re definitely with them on this particular issue.

Schoolboys were banned from wearing shorts to school at Isca Academy in Exeter, despite their parents’ protests that it was too hot.

Mum Claire Reeves, told local paper Devon Live: “I have called the school several times and they have told me that if I send my son to school in shorts then he will be sent to the isolation room all day and if I keep him off school then it’ll be an unauthorised absence.”

Another mum said: “Children also don’t like injustice. The boys see the women teachers in sandals and nice cool skirts and tops while they are wearing long trousers and shoes and the older boys have to wear blazers. They just think it’s unfair that they can’t wear shorts in this heat.”

As temperatures hit the mid 30s on Wednesday, the boys decided enough was enough and borrow uniformed skirts from sisters and friends. On Thursday, around 30 pupils wore skirts to school in protest of the shorts ban.

It’s unclear whether the boys were put in isolation for wearing skirts and Devon Live reports the school head teacher Miss Aimee Mitchell has said she’ll consider changing the uniform policy in hot weather in the future, but the school needs to consult families first.

The boys aren’t the only ones sick of wearing trousers in the heat. Another UK man wore a dress to work after he was sent home for wearing shorts.

You’ve got to love the Brits!
