Hollywood heavyweights say no to sexual assault

Mr Biden gave a speech about sexual assault at the White House on Tuesday and premiered the public service announcement starring well-known actors, Benicio del Toro, Daniel Craig, Steve Carell, Seth Myers and Dule Hill.

During his speech America’s second-in-command passionately implored the men everywhere to be courageous and stand up to those who commit crimes against women.

“We are never going to solve this epidemic until we get men involved,” urged Mr Biden.

According to America’s National Institute of Justice, one in five women are sexually assaulted while in college in the US. Young women between the ages 16 to 24 experience the highest rates of sexual violence at the hands of someone they know.

Mr Biden – a father of four, including two girls – is championing ‘1 is 2Many’ which encourages men to break their silence when they see a woman being victimised.

“I understand that the good guys [that] report feel like they may be damaging the reputation of their schools. I get it. But it doesn’t matter,” Biden said.

The Vice President said when he made the call to the celebrities in his PSA they were all immediately willing to get involved.

“I’m not used to making calls to big old movie stars,” Biden said. “But I called them. And every one of them said immediately, ‘What can I do?'” said Mr Biden.
