Girl, 2, who was critically injured in beating dies in Sydney hospital overnight

A 23-year-old man is accused of the vicious attack.

A two-year-old girl has died after she was allegedly assaulted by a 23-year-old man in Sydney’s West on Monday.

Yesterday Mohammed Khazma, 23, was charged with reckless assault causing grievous bodily harm after the child was found unconscious in a car in Guildford on Monday afternoon, reports Fairfax media.

It’s alleged Khazma attacked the girl in the flat he shared with the toddler’s mother – a woman he’d only known for a few weeks.

“It’s shocking,” Rosehill Local Area Commander, Acting Superintendent Glen Parks told journalists. “It’s shocking for the community, it’s shocking for the police attending… It’s difficult to comprehend.”

Police say they expect Mr Khazma’s charges to be upgraded to murder when he returns to court in January.
