Donald Trump unveils his controversial anti-terrorism plan

I call it extreme vetting.

US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has said that he would bring in “extreme vetting” of immigrants to the US if he were to win the presidency.

During a speech made in Ohio the candidate said he would introduce ideology testing to see if people coming to America shared Western liberal values, such as religious tolerance. He also said citizens from some countries will not be issued visas, but it is still not clear which nations will be banned.

Trump said the measures would be used to protect the United States from terrorism.

“We should only admit into this country those who share our values and respect our people,” Trump said.

“In the Cold War, we had an ideological screening test. The time is overdue to develop a new screening test for the threats we face today. I call it extreme vetting.”

While Trump did not use the opportunity to once again claim his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama “founded” the so-called Islamic State, he did repeat the claim he was opposed to the Iraq War before it began – a claim fact checkers say is untrue.
