“Whole family has been wiped out”: Devastated mum loses two children in Dreamworld tragedy

A family left heartbroken.

The mother of two of the people killed in the tragic Dreamworld accident says her “whole family has been wiped out” and her family is devastated.

Four people were killed when the Thunder River Rapids ride malfunctioned on Tuesday afternoon and three of the victims have been named overnight.

The Courier Mail reports Kate Goodchild, 32, her brother Luke Dorsett, his partner Roozi Araghi and a 42-year-old woman who remains unknown were among those killed.

It is understood Ms Goodchild’s daughter was on the ride also but she was flung off to safety, as was another child.

It is believed the group was on holidays from Canberra and only visited the popular theme park after extending their trip a few extra days.

Talking about the loss of both her children Kate Goodchild and Luke Dorsett, grieving mum Kim Dorsett, who was also on the holiday, said her family is “absolutely devastated”.

“We are just devastated, absolutely devastated,” she told The Courier Mail.

“I have three children and have lost two of them today — my whole family has been wiped out.

“I have two granddaughters — an eight-month-old and a 12-year-old — and it truly breaks my heart to know that my eight-month-old is never going to get to know her mum.”

Following the fatal incident Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, who also took her family on the ride earlier this year, told the ABC while the park has a good safety record an extensive investigation would be launched.

“We want to leave no stone unturned to get to the bottom of this. We want to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again,” she said on Tuesday.

“Safety needs to be a number one priority and what we’ve seen today is perhaps the worst tragedy in a theme park in my living memory.”

Yesterday the Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull also offered his condolences to the family.

“Theme parks are a place for family fun and happiness, not tragedy,” he said.

“This is a very, very sad and tragic event. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives.”

Dreamworld has been closed indefinitely to focus on the investigation and police are reportedly combing CCTV footage for clues as to what exactly happened.
