She brought her the most unexpected visitor.

Nothing cheers you up like a good snuggle with a pet, right?

Unfortunately for Shelby Hennick’s grandmother, who was in the hospital after a bad reaction to medication, that was out of the question…or was it?

An animal lover and vet technician, Shelby smuggled her grandmother Donna’s dog, Patsy, into the hospital to brighten her day.

So how did she do it?

Shelby posted a photo on Twitter of Patsy swaddled in blankets looking very much like a baby in her arms. In fact, even Grandma Donna thought Shelby was carrying her granddaughter (Shelby’s sister’s baby).

Imagine her surprise when Shelby pulls back the blanket to reveal something a little hairier than your average 6-month-old.

One “very surprised” grandmother was made to “feel better, [and] more at home” thanks to Patsy’s visit. And we’re sure Patsy was happy to see her owner. According to Shelby, Patsy was a nervous wreck on the way to the hospital, which Shelby believes was because Patsy thought she was going to the vet.

While we think this story is very sweet, we should say that there was definitely a proper protocol that Shelby should have followed to bring Patsy to see Grandma Donna.

Pets obviously pose a threat to other patients that may have allergies, and they can also bring in foreign contaminants because they’re not properly cleaned.

That said, many doctors recognise the healing effect that animals have on patients, and the hospital where Shelby’s grandmother was might have had their own therapy animals.

Shelby is a vet technician, so she knew the risks involved. Even though she doesn’t regret what she did because it made her grandmother happy, she would advise others to check in with the hospital or nursing staff to see if arrangements can be made to bring in a pet.

Whether or not you agree with Shelby’s decision, you can’t deny how doggone cute Grandma Donna and Patsy are!
