Golden retriever finds $100,000 worth of heroin in backyard

An accidental hero.

Kenyon, a very good dog from Oregon, US, dug up a package containing over $100,000 worth of black tar heroin from his backyard earlier this month.

Kenyon’s family first thought their 18-month-old golden retriever had found a time capsule, but rather than a piece of history the family was shocked to discover the dog had found 15 ounces of heroin.

As soon as the family realised what Kenyon had found, they contact their local police department.

Their suspicions were then confirmed by Yamhill County Sheriff Tim Svenson who identified the substance.

While the family wish to remain anonymous, Kenyon is shooting to internet fame.

The doggo was congratulated in a Facebook post and presented with an official K-9 citation ribbon and a place as an honorary narcotics dog for life.

The post read: “Opioid addiction and overdose deaths are on the rise and with the help of Kenyon this large quantity of heroin is removed from our community.”

At this stage, it is not clear how the drugs ended up in the backyard, or who buried them.

Surely it’s only a matter of time until Kenyon gets his own crime-fighting web series.

We’d tune in for a face that adorable any day.

Good boy, Kenyon.
