Introducing the Guinness World Record holders for 2018

Meet some real life super heroes (and some super foods)!

We’ve all got a unique talent.

Some of us can whip up an amazing cake, and others can hold their breath for way longer than anyone thought possible (don’t try that one at home).

But have you ever wondered if your talent could break a record?

For 63 years now, people have been pouring over the Guinness World Record books, marveling at the jaw-dropping photos and inspiring stories of record-breaking triumphs.

So we’re remarkably thankful that these people did more than just wonder what could be and now are among the 2018 Guinness World Record holders.

Below are a few of our faves from this year’s selection.

Harnaam Kaur is a 24-year-old body confidence and anti-bullying activist.

Taking to Instagram she says of the award:

“It is amazing to be valued and celebrated being a Bearded Lady. I am proud to hold this amazing record.

“I hope those who read or see my record can take away positivity, inspiration and realise that no matter who you are or what you look like, you are officially amazing!”

What is a world record?

All Guinness World Records must fulfil some key criteria including:

  • Measurable: Is it the fastest / longest / heaviest / most?

  • Breakable: Can the record be broken or repeated by someone else? All our record titles must be open to being challenged.

  • Standardisable: Can the record title be done universally? For example, it cannot be related to something restricted to a region.

  • Verifiable: Can the claim be proven? For example, a claim such as ‘the man who never drank water’, can never be verified unless the man spent his whole life from birth under surveillance by a witness.

  • One Variable: We can verify the Largest painting but would not consider the largest painting by the most people.

  • Universal: The proposal must be something, or about something that is known to the world’s majority. It cannot be too specific / regional.
