This $6 Coles wine has won an international competition

Quick, someone get the glasses! It's not good to keep these things bottled up.

Do you believe everything happens for a Riesling?

Do you live your life by the motto stop and smell the Rose?

Or maybe we had you at Merlot?

We could go on with these wine puns all day, but we have some very important news, and it’s not good to keep these things bottled up.

A red wine retailing for just $6 and available exclusively at Coles has received international recognition, winning the coveted “double gold” medal at the Melbourne International Wine Competition.

The $6, St Andrews Cabernet Sauvignon, available solely at Coles outlets was selected as a winner through a blind taste test. Now that’s a job we wouldn’t mind having on a Friday night.

“It was a shock and there was a fair bit of mirth when it was revealed the Coles wine won,’’ Peter Simic, Winestate publisher and head of the judging panel told The Australian today.

“We have never seen anything like it.’’

It’s not the first ‘budget’ Coles plonk to make a splash.

Last year the James Busby Big & Bold Shiraz 2015 also from Coles and priced at just $5 became the cheapest wine ever to win the best wine under $20 at the Winestate Wine of the Year Awards.

Both wines can be found through Coles owned outlets, Liquorland, First Choice and Vintage Cellars.

You’d better be quick if you want to grab yourself a bottle, last year’s winner sold out in a matter of days. In case you needed an excuse that is.
