What your birthstone says about you

All that glitters...
birthstone

For many, jewellery symbolises an almost a timeline of their lives signifying birthdays, friendships, weddings and other special occasions.

Whilst fine jewellery is high in monetary value, gemstones are known to be extra significant for all that they represent – known to bring luck, health and prosperity.

From the cool, calm and collected July babies to the feisty and spontaneous behaviours of those born in January, birthstones can reveal a lot about your personality.

January – Garnet

Faith, love and constancy are the key traits of New Year’s babies – although those born under this stone are also confident, energetic, and possess a great deal of will power.

Despite the grounding nature of the stone, garnets tend to be very sensual. Their strong and intense feelings give them BIG romantic dreams, and they tend to throw themselves completely into their relationships – or not at all.

Garnets weren’t just traditionally worn by lovers, however; they are also donned by warriors and travellers, as they are said to protect them and warn them of impending danger. As a result, January babies tend to be feisty and spontaneous, with a love of travelling and trying new things whenever they can.

February – Amethyst

Amethysts represent peace, serenity, and royalty – which is why the Pope always wears an amethyst ring.

It is also associated with Dionysus, the Greek God of Wine, which is why February babies have such strong stomachs; they can enjoy alcohol without becoming excessively drunk, and they also maintain sober and serious minds at all times.

March – Aquamarine

The blue-green colour of the sea, this precious stone (believed to be the treasure of mermaids) inspires truth, trust, and letting go.

It is also considered to represent the eternal youth and happiness, which is why so many March babies are young at heart!

People born under this stone are calm, contemplative, loving, and spiritual – not to mention very good at expressing their feelings. They also tend to be able to think clearly and make quick decisions, not to mention be courageous in times of trouble, and are more likely to be spontaneous as a result.

April – Diamond

April babies tend to be utterly fearless, endlessly faithful, and very protecting of those they love.

They also possess great strength of character and a strict moral code, making them very dependable friends and loyal lovers.

Those born under the diamond are beautiful, inside and out, and value truth and trust above all else. Plus, they have a fondness for all things sparkly and luxurious; it’s in their nature, you see!

May – Emerald

This precious gemstone was famously associated with Venus, the goddess of love and beauty – and, as a result, it bestows some VERY powerful traits upon those born under it.

Babies born in May, therefore, are lucky, energetic, and eloquent – or, as the Irish would say, they have the gift of the gab.

They are also very devoted and loving. In fact, this stone is said to protect lovers from unfaithfulness – and many babies born in May prize loyalty above all else in relationships.

June – Alexandrite

This extremely rare gemstone may be a peaceful green by day, but, in the light of an open flame, it burns a brilliant red. As a result, it is strongly believed to bring good luck, fortune and love to those born under it – as well as a reminder that life is not only what it seems to be.

June babies are intuitive, imaginative, and romantic, not to mention hopeful about their futures. They have good self-esteem and are very appreciative of the world around them – not to mention very joyful, in spite of their self-disciplined natures.

Fair warning, though; just like their magical colour-changing gemstone, they have changeable natures – and their moods can shift very quickly indeed!

July – Ruby

You might think bright red rubies signify lust, passion, and quick tempers, but you couldn’t be more wrong; this stone is actually a token of peace and harmony, and those born under it tend to be calm and level-headed.

They are also vibrant, confident, and determined – and will always go the distance to make their dreams come true. As a result, attract good luck and good friends.

Ruby babies are also very devoted, very faithful, and VERY loving, and prefer being in a settled long-term relationship with someone they can trust.

August – Peridot

August babies are full of warmth, charm and sparkle, with sharp minds, bucket-loads of self-worth, a great sense of humour, and a strong inner radiance.

They tend to have a wonderful healing effect on those around them – which makes a LOT of sense when you consider the fact that their birthstone is peridot, a gem traditionally used to drive away the forces of darkness.

The peridot helps August babies to overcome their fears and worries, as well as opens their minds to the world around them.

September – Sapphire

Sapphires represent dignity, loyalty, serenity, faith, purity and wisdom – not to mention kindness and wise judgement.

People born under sapphires tend to possess all of the above traits, as well as great self-belief, confidence, and inner strength. They are usually very good at concentrating, at solving problems, and at giving good advice to others.

September babies tend to be the mother hens of their friendship groups, but, despite this, they still have plenty of time to kick back and have fun!

October – Opal

The opal is a stone of inspiration, hope, creativity, and innocence – all qualities which October babies possess in spades.

It is also a protective stone, helping to protect wearers from people with bad intentions, as well as to help them to become “invisible” in situations where they would prefer not to be noticed.

People born under this magical stone tend to be quietly confident, emotional, loving, and dreamy – not to mention very sunny-natured and optimistic.

November – Yellow Topaz

Yellow topaz is associated with the stability and comfort of the home, with November babies always at the centre of family life and hospitality.

They are very protective of those they love and tend to be ‘healers’, helping to lift the spirits and moods of those around them – as well as offer them comfort in times of hardship.

This birthstone helps November babies to believe in themselves, as well as forge good and meaningful friendships with those around them.

December – Tanzanite

Tanzanite represents a happy life that is filled with good fortune – something which many December babies will definitely reap the benefits of!

The pretty blue stone is famed for promoting good communication (yes, December babies are VERY chatty and charming!), as well as uniting their minds and hearts.

Those born under Tanzanite also tend to be more spiritual and open-minded, and usually have some – even if very limited – psychic ability.
