Emotions ran high during last night’s episode of House Rules.
Sean and Ella and Kate and Harry were on the back foot after Cyclone Debbie struck while they were attempting to renovate the gardens in Aaron and Daniella’s Queensland home.
As a result of the unpredictable weather, things didn’t go according to plan. Especially for Sean and Ella who ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard.
Take a closer look at the transformations below.
Kate and Harry (Aaron and Daniella’s entry): Drew slammed the entry, saying it looked like “a cheap Thai restaurant”.
Kate and Harry (Aaron and Daniella’s seating area and yard): Drew really wasn’t a fan of the whole area. He felt that the water fountain looked cheap. On the other hand, LLB liked the bamboo and felt that the design was actually very “mature”.
Sean and Ella (Aaron and Daniella’s play area): All three judges felt that the location of the cubby house was “impractical” as it blocked the view of the river.
Sean and Ella (Aaron and Daniella’s pool): LLB hated the pool area. “They’ve done really, really badly,” he said. The only thing he did like were the disco tiles around the pool.
Sean and Ella (Aaron and Daniella’s outdoor seating area): Drew and Wendy liked the fact they took the decking all the way out to the edge to make the space feel bigger. LLB couldn’t find much to like about the backyard at all eventually declaring he was “heartbroken” by what he saw – ouch!
Andrew and Jono (Sean and Ella’s entry steps): The judges loved the entry stairs but not the extra “tack-on stair” that extended into the house.
Andrew and Jono (Sean and Ella’s backyard and edible garden): Wendy was very impressed with the boys work. “I think they have created another area to enjoy the beautiful view and I would have never thought you could fit so much into such a tiny corner,” she said.

Aaron and Daniella (Sean and Ella’s fire pit): Aaron’s fire pit was a big hit with the judges. “It’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen,” Drew said.
Aaron and Daniella (Sean and Ella’s deck): There was a lot of contradiction between the judges on this one. Wendy and Drew thought the deck was amazing, while LLB disagreed saying it was, “furnished in an obvious off-the-shelf Ikea-ey way”.
Aaron and Daniella (Sean and Ella’s front yard): LLB liked the idea of the pink wall, but didn’t think it had been executed well.
