Scandal to finish after seven seasons

It’s the end of the road for Olivia Pope.

Savour every last episode with Olivia Pope and her gladiators, because Scandal is expected to run its course at the end of its seventh season.

While no official announcement has been made yet, ABC Studio and Shondaland representatives are expected to deliver the news during ABC’s upfront presentation next week.

Creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes has kept relatively quiet about how the political drama will unfold and where Kerry Washington’s character will end up, but we’re sure to expect fireworks – and a glass of red wine. Will Olivia and Fitz live happily ever after? Time will tell!

When Scandal reached its 100th episode, Shonda explained how the recent election, in which Donald Trump became the President of the United States, has made a huge impact on the show.

“I used to know how it ended, and then Donald Trump was elected,” Shonda told The Hollywood Reporter. “We had a destination, and I don’t know if that’s our destination anymore. In a world in which all of the things that we would write on Scandal are happening in real life, it’s very hard to write Scandal the way we used to.”

Shonda, who is equally successive in her other two programs, Grey’s Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder, has been heralded for pushing diversity and encouraging topical storylines.

Kerry Washington, who plays the formidable Olivia, picked up her first Emmy nomination in 2013 and became the first African-American to be nominated for best drama actress in the past 18 years and fifth overall.

Meanwhile, Shonda has two pilots in the works: a Romeo and Juliet follow-up series called Still Star-Crossed and her first comedy, which is written by Scandal star Scott Foley.
