We’re still trying to decide if more of Pierce’s singing is a good or a bad thing…
Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia is back! A sequel to the 2008 has been confirmed for a July 2018 release and will be called Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.

The sequel will see Meryl Streep, 67, Amanda Seyfried, 31, Colin Firth, 56, and Pierce Brosnan, 64, reprise their roles along with some fresh faces joining the cast.

Pierce took to Instagram yesterday to share the happy news.

“Do wanna dance, or do you wanna dance ? Mama Mia here we go again…” Pierce wrote alongside a picture of himself and Meryl Streep from the film.

British writer and director Ol Parker is back on board to write and direct the sequel, along with producers Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzmen. ABBA’s Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus will also be involved in the production that is set to feature a number of ABBA’s hits that didn’t make it into the original.

The original film, based on the stage musical of the same name, followed the story of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) trying to track down her father so he could walk her down the aisle at her wedding. Sophie learns her father could be one of three of her mother Donna’s (Meryl Streep) past lovers – Sam Carmichael (Pierce Brosnan), Harry Bright (Colin Firth) or Stellan Skarsgard (Bill Anderson). She ends up inviting them all to the wedding.

At this stage, the storyline for the sequel is being kept under wraps however it’s rumoured to be both a prequel and a sequel to the original film with the focus exploring how Donna originally met Sophie’s potential fathers.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again will be filmed on the Greek island of Kalokairi – with a location like that, we can understand why the original cast were so quick to sign on for round two!
