We discuss the big talking points on TV this week

From the lack of cooking on Hell's Kitchen to Nicole Kidman's make under in Top Of The Lake: China Girl, here's what the TV WEEK office are talking about.
David Oldfield

1. Hell’s Kitchen – Cooking or reheating?

Marco Pierre White is pure fire at the helm in Hell’s Kitchen, and David Oldfield (above) is bringing some laughs.

But what we need is more cooking.

The contestants have mastered the art of reheating, but have barely beaten an egg.

The show isn’t dishing up strong ratings, so Chef – make them cook!

2. Australian Survivor – Lessons in lying

After Australian Ninja Warrior taught our kids some inspiring lessons, Australian Survivor is
a change of pace.

While ANW was all about perseverance and putting your best foot forward, Survivor values lying, conniving and sneaking around.

Sure it’s addictive TV, but at what cost?

3. Little Big Shots – Where’s the big deal?

It’s the little show facing
a big problem.

Little Big Shots, hosted by funnyman Shane Jacobson, was meant to start weeks ago.

We were all primed to fall in love with these talented kids, but the unforseen might of Australian Ninja Warrior saw Channel Seven push pause on the project.

Enough with the endless promos – give us some more family-friendly fun and
get the show rolling.

4. Language on TV

A recent Billy Connolly special
on Channel Seven saw the legendary Scottish comedian frequently dropping the F-bomb.

The show went was screened at 7.30pm, so the language caught many by surprise.

Surely that sort of thing isn’t allowed, is it? Actually, it is.

In December 2015, the Australian Communication And Media Authority updated the Commercial Television Industry Code Of Practice to allow M-classified content to be shown from 7.30pm.

With regard to
M-classification and language,
the code states: “The use of coarse language is permitted, but aggressive or strong, coarse language should
be infrequent overall.”

5. Top Of The Lake: China Girl – That’s Nicole?

She’s regarded as one of the most beautiful women in the world, but Oscar winner Nicole Kidman has had a serious make under for Top of the Lake: China Girl.

Wispy grey hair, aged skin and freckles render the 50-year-old almost unrecognisable.

We did a double take and so will you.
