Karl Stefanovic puts his hand up to host the 2018 TV WEEK Logie Awards

The Today host backtracks on his threat to boycott next year’s awards show.

Just days after saying he would boycott the TV WEEK Logie Awards if it was held outside of Melbourne, Today host Karl Stefanovic has backtracked on his threat and now says he wants to host the event!

The stunning turnaround comes just moments after it was announced that the biggest awards night in Australian TV is moving to Queensland’s Gold Coast, as part of a new four-year deal.

“I think I should definitely be hosting it!” Karl told TV WEEK on the Gold Coast this morning.

“It will be fun and great to have it here. Queenslanders love their TV and they will come and support it for sure.”

This morning, TV WEEK announced that the TV WEEK Logie Awards are heading to Queensland’s Gold Coast from 2018.

The move is part of a four-year deal with the Queensland Government and Tourism And Events Queensland. It marks the first time the iconic Australian event has been held in the Sunshine State.

The awards will be held in July at The Star Gold Coast, while broadcast partner the Nine Network will once again bring all the action to viewers across the country.

As for Karl’s comments about boycotting the event earlier in the week, he now wants to make sure he is front and centre at next year’s event – that’s if his bosses let him, he says.

“If the bosses let me come I’ll be coming and I’ll be having a great time,” he laughs.

As for whom will be taking out the TV WEEK Gold Logie next year, Karl pointed straight to the two women he sits next to each morning.

“I think it’s time for Lisa Wilkinson and Sylvia Jeffreys to win a Gold Logie,” the former Gold winner says.

“I’d love them to take it out, they are the best females hosts in the country, they deserve the accolades. After all, they do work with me every day!”
