Some of the most gripping storylines to hit Summer Bay have involved birth of a new bundle of joy. And in true soap opera style, the course of a Home And Away pregnancy never did run smooth.

With seldom a hospital in sight, the residents of the Bay have given birth everywhere from the side of a road to a deserted beach.

But the dramatic surroundings were all made worth it in the end when those cute little faces all made it out safely into the world.

Scroll on to see the most powerful, tense and flat-out emotional scenes involving births on Home And Away.

Nicole – Tessa James 2011

Nicole and Angelo (Luke Jacobz) were strolling along a deserted beach when Nicole went into labour. With a helping hand from Dr Sid (Robert Mammone), who was on the phone, Angelo succesfully delivered Nicole’s baby boy.

Hayley – Ella Scott Lynch 2005

Hayley was in a caravan in a secluded spot in the bush when she went into labour. She managed to call Scott (Kip Gamblin) to give him enough information to find her. Scott helped deliver the baby – who really was his – even though everyone thought the father was Kim (Chris Hemsworth).

Bianca – Lisa Gormley 2012

Poor Bianca developed pre-eclampsia, which put both her and her baby’s life at risk. She needed to deliver the baby early. Just before she went into the operating theatre, Bianca had a seizure. The baby, named Rocco, was eventually born by caesarean.

Angel – Melissa George 1996

Struggling to cope with her hubby Shane’s (Dieter Brummer) death, Angel went into labour eight weeks early. It was during a deluge and access to the hospital was cut off. A mystery biker, possibly the spirit of Shane, guided Angel to safety where she gave birth.

Kit – Amy Mizzi 2007

With Kit’s contractions only a few minutes apart, Kim (Chris Hemsworth) drove her to hospital along a bush track. The car hit a rock and ended up with a flat tyre. Kim couldn’t get any phone reception but the baby was on its way! With Kim as a birth coach, little Archie arrived safely!

Roo – Justine Clarke 1988

Roo’s pregnancy was eventful! The baby was Brett’s (Gerry Sont), but Roo convinced Frank (Alex Papps) it was his, before spilling the truth on their wedding day. Later, Roo faked labour pains to stop her dad, Alf (Ray Meagher), meeting up with Ailsa (Judy Nunn) and getting back together with her.

Gypsy – Kimberley Cooper 2001

Gypsy found herself in a less-than-ideal birth location: by the side of the road. Leaning up against the car, Gypsy was terrified. Fortunately, Will (Zac Drayson) was there to reassure her. Before long, little Lily was born. As the happy couple cradled their newborn child, Will proposed to Gypsy. She said yes!
