James Bond legend Roger Moore has passed away

His family confirmed the sad news.

Sir Roger Moore has died at the age of 89 from cancer.

A statement released on the actor’s Twitter page, by his three children, Deborah Moore, Geoffrey Robert Moore and Christian Moore, announced he passed away on Tuesday, May 23, in Switzerland.

“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce our loving father, Sir Roger Moore, has passed away today,” the statement read.

“Sir Roger Moore, has passed away today in Switzerland after a short but brave battle with cancer.”

“The love in which he was surrounded in his final days was so great it cannot be quantified in words alone.”

Roger became an international superstar after starring in his first James Bond film Live and Let Die back in 1973.

The iconic screen legend’s three kids touched on their father’s humanitarian efforts.

“We know our own love and admiration will be magnified many times over, across the world, by people who knew him for his films, his television shows and his passionate work for UNICEF which he considered to be his greatest achievement,” the family said.

“The affection our father felt whenever he walked on to a stage or in front of a camera buoyed him hugely and kept him busy working into his 90th year, though to his last appearance in November 2016 on stage at London’s Royal Festival Hall.”

“The capacity crowd cheered him on and off stage, shaking the very foundations of the building just a short distance from where he was born,” they remarked.

“Thank you Pops for being you, and for being so very special to so many people.”

The trio signed off the statement by sharing their condolences with Roger’s fourth wife Kristina Tholstrup.

“Our thoughts must now turn to supporting Kristina at this difficult time, and in accordance with our father’s wishes there will be a private funeral in Monaco.”

With dedications flowing in from around the world, the 89-year-old received a very touching tribute from Her Majesty.

During the Queen’s second Buckingham Palace garden party of the year, the Band of the Coldstream Guards began playing the James Bond theme in tribute to the late actor.

Roger holds the record for the longest stint as the British spy starring seven films, playing the role from 1973 until he stepped down at age 58 in 1985 – making him the oldest actor to play the beloved film character.

The actor with Her Majesty back in 2006.

Roger is survived by his three kids and fourth wife Kristina.
